Golden handshakes, huge bank transfers, corrupt bank heads, fast-tracked personal loans, bailouts and more. Politicians and bankers make the blood boil. Bertie Ahern back in 2007 making his 'suicide' comment about the Irish economy and those that would talk it down. They live in a world of their own.
The Prime Time program on RTE tonight provides a stark reminder of the financial burden that the Irish taxpayer has undertaken, and the circumstances that led us to this situation. It make the blood boil.
Fingleton, Fitzpatrick, McCreevey, Ahern, Drumm, Neary. For some of these 2010 will surely be a year of atonement. 2009 was all about patchwork, getting things back on track, making sure we didn't drift into the abyss. 2010 must be about stabilisation and extracting real answers from these people. And where necessary, it must be about appropriate punishment.
